Joseph Rebello“The magic of live music events lies in thrilling the audience with ‘real’ live music. AND VERSATILITY IS OUR STRENGTH“– Joseph Rebello

Joseph Rebello, or ‘RebellJo’, is a versatile vocalist, bass guitarist and music conservationist with a passion for saving ‘real’ live music. Whether you’re listening to him at a local theatre or pub, a corporate or private party, there’s nothing programmed about the music he presents. He thrives on exciting audiences with rhythmical Reggae, timeless Top Forty Classic Rock, Funk, Dance Music of the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s & Oldies.

Joseph grew up in Tanzania deeply influenced by a culture of clubs and live music. By the late 1970’s, he was a self-taught bass guitarist, vocalist and founder of the popular band, The Revolution. This band performed at the prestigious Kilimanjaro Hotel for eight years, until Joseph’s decision to move on. Now known as the Njenje Band, the group continues to be one of Tanzania’s leading entertainment bands.  While in Tanzania, Joseph often played with world-renowned musicians, like jazz maestro Sadao Watanabe and Madagascan guitarist, Jimmy Mawi. Since immigrating to Canada in 1989, Joseph created the Naked Flame band, popular at music venues and events across Canada and the USA for over 10 years.

Today, Joseph has created a remarkable collaboration in his latest avatar, The RebellJo Band, aka…The Rebelljo Empire boasting over 14 music artists, . He believes this multitalented group allows him the bandwidth to produce a perfectly customized music event to suit any client’s needs – from outdoor festivals, theatres, corporate events, weddings, and local pubs and clubs. He enjoys producing a wide range of music events including the increasing popular Bob Marley Tribute, St Patrick’s Day Irish, Country Night, East Coast Night and Tropical Night. Some of the venues that his configurations(duo/Trio or Full Band) can be heard are  at  Fionn MacCool’s , (multiple locations), Port Credit’s Roc’n Doc’s Live Music Grill, . He also regularly entertains live music fans in Georgetown at Uncorked On Main, St. George`s Pub, Burlington`s Gator Ted`s, The Busholme Inn in Erin, among many others. Then again, there are the Legion`s, Moose Lodge`s, Senior`s Dancer`s, and that is where his versatility shoots out with the oldies music. (See upcoming events here.)

After a long and personal battle with addiction and recovery, Joseph has been campaigning to raise awareness through his Project Twende Afrika Rebelljo. In Dec 2014, he undertook a personal journey to Tanzania, with his band, to support the Sober House, a rehabilitation center for addicts, in his erstwhile hometown of Tanga. Joseph visited the organization, spoke to the staff about their needs, and then created much-needed awareness and helped raise funds. Joseph is driven to bring to reality his dream of producing a collaboration of African and North American artists in raising awareness and aid for the cause close to his heart.

Live Music. Live On.
